Andrew Joshua Matson was born at 1:26 pm on January 30th, and went to be with Jesus at around 5:30 pm on March 3rd. He spent his time here on earth living in the NICU at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. Jennifer has been giving daily updates, and we wanted to make them available to our friends and family. We were blessed to be Andrew's parents for 33 days. While we will always miss him and love him, we know that he is in a much better place where he will never again feel pain or discomfort. We thank God for blessing us with the time we had with Andrew. -Josh and Jennifer

Wednesday, February 7th

Weight: 2 lbs 0.8 ounces

Andrew had a good day today. His oxygen is down to 25%. His ventilator is set on 45 (breaths per minute) and he can get off of it when he is at 21% oxygen and 20 breaths per minute. He did get his bili lights back on but I'm not surprised because he looked kind of yellow yesterday.

His physical therapist came to check his splints and make sure they were not irritating his skin and that was good. They also did the blood draw for his newborn screen & some DNA testing but that will take a few days to come back. And then another transfusion.

He also got to eat today for the first time and I got to feed him! He got a whopping 3 cc's of breastmilk through his feeding tube. That is one tenth of one ounce, or about half of a teaspoon. He will eat every 3 hours. They checked his tummy because sometimes they don't digest the milk if they aren't ready for it but he digested it all and they said that was really good for such a little guy on his first feed. I think he just liked mama's milk.

I did ask around about holding him. They explained that while he has his IV in his bellybutton, it goes into a major artery and it's a very fine tube. If it should come out then he could bleed to death, so I can't hold him until that IV is out. Maybe this week. The PT is different because he still lays in the same spot, they just move his arms and legs. So I feel a bit more satisfied. I did get to cuddle him a bit in his bed, holding his back and his head, and I think he liked it! His sats were in the 90's all day but jumped way up to 99 or 100 when I was "holding" him. Two poopy diapers and pee everywhere, they had to change his blankets. What a little boy!
