Weight: 2 lbs 5 ounces
Just got home, kind of a late night tonight. Today was the first time that I didn't get to spend the day with Andrew and it was hard on me. A baby should be with his mama. I was really missing Haley a lot today too. Andrew had an okay day though, and that helps. His oxygen is around 26% and he is at 40 breaths per minute. They hooked him up to another machine and this one monitors when he tries to breathe. If he initiates a breath then the ventilator will finish it. It's because he was fighting the vent before, when he tried to inhale it was making him exhale because it's just on a timer. So this new thing makes him a little more comfortable in trying to work with him. He is initiating about 20 breaths a minute on his own. He also moved up to 5 cc's on his feeds, which is one teaspoon every 3 hours. He's still under the bili lights but he doesn't look quite as yellow today. Also his bruising seems to be getting better. He had a lot of bradychardia spells today (where his heartrate drops) but they say that is normal for preemies. That's about it....oh, he was hanging on to his ventilator tube tonight and that was kind of cute.
Tomorrow he has an appointment with the neurologist.
Andrew Joshua Matson was born at 1:26 pm on January 30th, and went to be with Jesus at around 5:30 pm on March 3rd. He spent his time here on earth living in the NICU at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. Jennifer has been giving daily updates, and we wanted to make them available to our friends and family.
We were blessed to be Andrew's parents for 33 days. While we will always miss him and love him, we know that he is in a much better place where he will never again feel pain or discomfort. We thank God for blessing us with the time we had with Andrew.
